The Challenges with Big Data Powering Cybersecurity
There is certainly a role for big data in reducing the threat profile of an organization. However, by and large, the approach is still a reactive strategy for addressing the threat landscape. Utilizing AI to comb zettabytes of data and predict points of attack is beneficial but with the constantly shifting landscape of technology and reliance on humans to push patches and updates, it is still a technique that won’t achieve the ultimate goal of zero data breaches. Currently Big Data applications for Cybersecurity are very similar to the development of threat profiles by anti virus and intrusion prevention solutions. With thousands of data breaches each year, the model of filters and analysis after the fact are doing little to deter the hacker innovation engine.
